Foreword

Having cleansed the mirror of my mind
with the dust of my Guru’s feet,
I salute Rama, bestower of the four goals of life
(righteousness, wealth, joy, liberation)

Knowing that I am devoid of intelligence
I focus my mind on the Son of the wind-God
and ask for strength, intelligence and knowledge,
to relieve me of all that causes pain and suffering.

Jaikar

Victory to Sita and Ramachandra
Victory to Hanuman, Son of the wind
Victory to the Lord of Uma, the great Lord Shiva

O Hanuman, I praise You,
for You always bring my devotion
to the feet of my beloved Lord Ram.
O Hanuman, I praise You,
for You always bring my devotion
to the feet of my beloved Lord Ram.

Praise

Salutations to Hanuman, ocean of wisdom and virtue,
salutations to the monkey-God who illuminates the three worlds.

The servant of Rama, source of immeasurable strength
You are the Son of the wind-God, born of Anjani.

Bravest of the brave, great vanquisher, like thunder,
driving away negative thoughts and bring positive ones.

Your skin glistens like gold, Your clothes are pleasing,
wearing rings in Your ear and Your hair is curly and long.

In Your hands You hold a bolt of thunder and a flag,
the sacred thread adorns Your shoulder.

Embodiment of Shiva, Son of Keshari,
Your radiance is adorned by the entire cosmos.

Extremely knowledgeable, extremely clever,
You are eager to do Rama’s bidding.

Eternally eager to hear the tales of the Lord,
Rama, Lakshmana, Sita eternally residing in Your heart.

Ref

You presented Yourself before Sita in a tiny form,
You burnt Lanka taking a gigantic terrifying form.

In Your formidable form You defeated demons
and cheerfully performed all tasks assigned to You by Rama.

You brought the magic sanjivan herb that restored
Lakshmana to life, thus pleasing Rama.

The lord of the Raghava clan extolled Your virtues and
said that You were as dear to him as his brother Bharata

Thousands of beings will sing Your praise,
so saying, Lord Rama embraced You.

Sages and seers like Sanaka and Narada, Brahma
and Ahisha found it hard to glorify Your virtues.

Even so the Lord of death and the Lord of wealth,
how then can a poet express Your glory in verse.

You did a great service to unite Sugriva with Rama
and helping Him gain the throne.

Ref

By following Your advice even Vibhishana,
became Lord of Lanka, this the whole world knows.

You traveled thousands of miles to the rising sun.
Mistaking it to be a fruit, You swallowed the sun.

It is no surprise therefore that, with Rama’s ring
in Your mouth, You leapt across the ocean to Lanka.

The burden of the world
becomes light through Your grace.

You stand guard on Rama’s door,
no one can enter His abode without Your permission.

All comforts lie at Your feet, knowing that You
are the guardian, there is nothing to fear.

You alone can carry Your dazzling glory,
the three worlds tremble at Your thunderous cry.

Ghosts and demons dare not to come near,
Hauman, when Your name is called out.

Ref

Diseases, aches and pains disappear
when Your name, Hanuman, is continually chanted.

Hanuman liberates us from all problems, when one
concentrates on Him, through thought, word and deed.

Caretaker of Rama, You are the Lord
and benefactor of all His devotees.

Whosoever thinks of You with sincerety,
discovers the fruit of immortal life.

You have been acclaimed across the entire universe
through the four ages of time (four yugas).

You are the protector of the sages and saints,
the destroyer of demons, the beloved of Rama.

Bearer of the eight occult accomplishments and
the nine secret treasures, You are blessed by Janaki.

You hold the essence of devotion to Rama, may You
remain the servant of the Lord of the Raghupati family.

Ref

Through Your bhajan, Rama can be attained
and the sorrows of several lifetimes can be forgotten.

Ultimately, we shall end up in Rama’s divine abode
where we shall reside as His devotee forever.

There is no need to propitiate any other deity,
through Hanuman all joys can be obtained.

All problems and pains are overcome
when one remembers mighty Hanuman.

Salutations to Hanuman Gosain, please
have compassion with me as You are my Divine Teacher.

Whosoever recites this Hanuman Chalisa a hundred times,
will be liberated from the bondage of worldly life.

Such is the testimony of none other
than the Lord of Gauri.

Tulsidas, the eternal servant of Hari,
hopes that Hanuman resides in the devotee’s heart forever.

Ref
